Patient Activation in Cancer Patients: Concept Analysis
Se Young Jang, Eun Sun Lee
Korean J Adult Nurs 2024;36(1):15-27.   Published online February 29, 2024
DOI: https://doi.org/10.7475/kjan.2024.36.1.15
Purpose
The aim of this study was to better understand the concept of patient activation in patients with cancer by identifying its dimensions and attributes and clarifying its definition through concept analysis. Methods: This concept analysis study used the method of Walker and Avant (2019), and systematically reviewed dictionary entries and 30 studies in various academic fields. Results: The concept of patient activation in patients with cancer was found to have four attributes: seeking health information, participating in treatment decision-making, confidence in health care, self-management behaviors. The antecedents identified were cancer history, fear of recurrence, information and resources provided by healthcare professionals, access to healthcare providers, negative perceptions of cancer, social support, and sociodemographic status. The consequences were appropriate treatment implementation, satisfaction with treatment, improved physical and mental health conditions, improved quality of life, reduced healthcare costs, and reduced stress. Conclusion: The development of patient activation measurements tailored to the characteristics of the disease and the goal of strengthening the role of patients, as well as the development and implementation of policies, programs, and guidelines to promote patient activation, will improve the medical experience and outcomes of cancer patients and adopt a more person-centered treatment approach.

Conceptual Analysis of Health Behavior in Tuberculosis Patients
Hye-Jin Kim, Myung Kyung Lee
Korean J Adult Nurs 2022;34(3):280-294.   Published online June 30, 2022
DOI: https://doi.org/10.7475/kjan.2022.34.3.280
Purpose
Health behavior is important for the treatment of tuberculosis patients. This study aims to clarify the concept of health behavior in tuberculosis patients.
Methods
We used Rodger's evolutionary concept analysis method. A literature search was performed using the NDSL, NAL, RISS, PubMed, ProQuest, CINAHL, Web of Science and Cochrane Library published in Korean and English language from January 2015 to April 2021. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 69 articles were selected for final analysis.
Results
The analysis showed that five attributes determine health behavior concepts: willpower, the choice for every moment, counterbalance, overcoming, and multi-level multi-causal processes.
Conclusion
This study shows that health behavior in tuberculosis patients has evolved into a patient-centered approach in an evolutionary context. The results of this study will contribute to the development of intervention access and management programs for health care providers, including nurses.

Concept Analysis of Anxiety in Patients with Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysm
Ji Eun Lee, Suk Jeong Lee
Korean J Adult Nurs 2022;34(1):85-96.   Published online February 28, 2022
DOI: https://doi.org/10.7475/kjan.2022.34.1.85
Purpose
Anxiety in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm is serious. However, the nature and definition of anxiety have not been elucidated so far. This study aimed to analyze the concept of anxiety in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm. Methods: The hybrid model was used to perform a concept analysis of anxiety which reflects disease specificity in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm. In the theoretical phase, thirteen pieces of literature were analyzed. In the fieldwork phase, in-depth interviews were conducted with seven patients, who decided to follow up without treatment, and then the content analysis was conducted. In the final analytic phase, attributes were figured out and the definition of anxiety was derived by comprehensively analyzing the results in the theoretical and fieldwork phases. Results: Thirteen attributes and four categories were identified in anxiety in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm. Anxiety in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm means a state in which they feel fear of sudden rupture and death, worry about uncertain prognosis, worry about distorted thinking, constraints in carrying out daily activities and work, need to pursue healthy behavior, hunger for information, and occasionally experiencing physical symptoms. Conclusion: This study clarified the concept of anxiety in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm. Concept analysis of anxiety in patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysm can form the basis for intervention and understanding the patients.

Concept Analysis on the Clinical Critical Thinking Ability in Nursing
Kyung Rim Shin, Ji Won Hwang, Su Jin Shin
J Korean Acad Adult Nurs 2008;20(5):707-718.   Published online October 31, 2008
PURPOSE
The present study was designed to understand the conceptual definition and attributes of the clinical critical thinking ability(CCTA) in nursing and to grasp the characteristics of clinical critical thinking abilities.
METHODS
The data were analyzed using the Hybrid model of Schwartz-Barcott and Kim(2000).
RESULTS
Having the skills and dispositions to think critically, CCTA refers to something that implies the cognizant ability to interpret contextual meanings, analyze the relationships between materials or circumstances, draw out the best conclusions, predict things using relevant information and evaluate the reliability of information and the strength of inference on the one hand and the emphatic disposition to be curious, open-minded, intellectually integral, systematic and creative and to reflect on things in contextual terms on the other.
CONCLUSION
CCTA is characterized by clinical circumstances, such as guessing the reasons for facts, predicting things, connecting theory to practice and approaching individual situation in total terms as well as by the Korean circumstances, such as taking another person's perspective. Hence, this study proposes developing the tools to measure the clinical critical thinking ability and the strategies to improve the clinical critical thinking ability and seeking to verify their validity, on the basis of the findings.
