PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to compare the role-expectations of gerontological nurse practitioners and performance of gerontological nursing by nurses in long term care hospitals and general hospitals.
METHODS
Subjects were 200 nurses; 100 nurses from long term care hospitals where as 100 nurses from general hospitals. The subjects completed a questionnaire on general characteristics, role-expectations of gerontological nurse practitioners, and performance of gerontological nursing by nurses. Data were collected from February to March 2013 and analyzed using SPSS/WIN 18.0 version program in order to perform descriptive statistics, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA.
RESULTS
Results indicated that there were significant differences in the role-expectations of gerontological nurse practitioners and performance of gerontological nursing between nurses from long term care hospitals and those from general hospitals.
CONCLUSION
Nurses in general hospitals showed significantly higher role expectations than nurses in long term care hospitals. Therefore it is necessary to spread the knowledge on the roles of gerontological nurse practitioners and the nurse practitioners system to nurses in long term care hospitals.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this study was to perform an economic analysis and estimate the fee for the practices that carried out by Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP) using relative value scale (RVS) and its conversion factor.
METHODS
First, we developed ENP's RVS for 25 advanced nursing services based on ENP's workload and its time spent by survey. A cost analysis was performed to evaluate the conversion factor of ENP's RVS. The share of ENP's contribution to fee-for-service in emergency setting was also analyzed.
RESULTS
Calculation of the RVS of 25 advanced nursing practices showed a range of points from 73.4 to 296.3 and an average of 145.1 points. The relevant conversion factor for advanced nursing practices among ENP was estimated at 12.2~15.9 won. The contribution rate of ENP's advanced nursing practices in the relative value scale of the national health insurance was estimated at 13.1~17.0%.
CONCLUSION
The practices of ENP are not compensated separately and its reimbursement is usually included in physician fee. An estimation of nursing fee and an independent fee related to ENP's services shows the contribution rate to total revenue. It suggests that emergency nurse practitioners be considered as a revenue source the in emergency room.

PURPOSE
The purposes of this article were to analyze curricula of gerontological nurse practitioner(GNP) programs in the United States, to compare the curricula with Korean GNP programs, and to provide suggestions for better GNP programs in Korea.
METHODS
Top GNP programs in the United States were identified from the US NEWS and 12 universities were included in the analyses. Class distribution, credit hours, and clinical hours were analyzed and suggestions for Korean GNP programs were made.
RESULTS
Average credit hours for class lectures in the US GNP programs were 47 and emphases on physiology, pharmacology, physical assessment, and disease management were identified. Most US GNP programs(75%) provided health concerns for both middle aged and older adults. Not all US GNP programs included 'theory' or 'the introduction to GNP' classes, while these are required classes in the Korean GNP program. The mean clinical hours in the US GNP Programs were 537 which are much higher than those in the Korean GNP program.
CONCLUSION
Based on the analyses, we can conclude that Korean GNP programs are lacking in many ways. Further evaluation and curricula modifications are required to settle down the program better and to have the graduates prepared more as internationally competent nurse practitioners.

PURPOSE
This descriptive study was conducted to project the number of critical care APNs needed in critical care units in an acute care hospital setting, up to the year 2020.
METHOD
Necessary data and information were collected from various funded reports, professional literature, web-sites and personal visits to national and private institutions. The demand of critical care APNs were projected based on two critical care APNs per critical care units.
RESULT
The projected number of critical APNs for the critical care units in acute care hospital settings as follows: 1) The total projected number of critical care APNs needed for critical care units were 1,270 in 2001. 2) By the year 2020, total number of projected critical care APNs needed in critical care units will be 1,080-1,700.
CONCLUSION
In order to match the supply to the need, the professional organization should direct their efforts toward enacting legislation. Educational systems should identify strategies in initiation of critical care APN programs in masters level as well as standardizing curriculums across the programs.
