PURPOSE Purpose of the study was to identify the effect of the Comprehensive Education Program (CEP) on intraprocedure anxiety, post-procedure uncertainty and athletic performance of back strengthening of patients undergo spinal nerve block (SNB). METHODS The participants (experimental group=33, control group=33) were recruited from a university hospital in G metropolitan city. Data were collected from July to November 2015. The experimental group was individually provided with a booklet/motion picture about the SNB and back strengthening exercise training before the SNB. This group also received a leaflet about back strengthening exercise post SNB. The Anxiety-Visual Analog Scale (A-VAS), the Mishel adapted uncertainty scale and newly created knowledge scale/athletic performance checklist were utilized as our study tools. RESULTS Intra-procedure anxiety score (F=25.70, p<.001), post-procedure uncertainty score (F=82.56, p<.001), post-procedure knowledge score (F=14.63, p<.001) and athletic performance rate of back strengthening (p=.003) of the experimental group showed statistically significant differences in comparison with the control group. CONCLUSION This CEP is a cost and time-effective intervention for patients who undergo spinal injections, so it should be actively utilized as an educational management strategy in outpatient.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a competency based safety and quality improving education program for undergraduate nursing students. METHODS A quasi-experimental study of a non-equivalent control group pre and post test design was used. The participants were sixty-eight undergraduate nursing students recruited from the two universities in G and M cities. They were assigned to either a treatment group (n=35) or a comparison group (n=33). A five-day educational program developed based on the ADDIE Instructional Design Model was offered to the treatment group whereas the comparison group did not receive any instruction. Data were collected using self-report structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 with the χ² test, and independent t-test. RESULTS The students in the treatment group reported significant positive changes for patient safety knowledge, skill and perception of quality and safety competencies. CONCLUSION Findings from this study supports that competency based quality improving and safety education program is a useful intervention strategy to promote student's knowledge, skill and perception of quality and safety competencies.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to develope and evaluate the effects of an AIDS education program among health care workers on knowledge, attitudes and care intention about AIDS. METHODS This study was conducted by self reporting with a 44 items of structured questionnaire by 291 health care workers. The research was a quasi-experimental study using one group pre-post design. AIDS education program was consisted of phases for 50 minutes, using power point by a researcher and research assistants. Data were collected before and after education and was analyzed by descriptive statistics and paired t-test. RESULTS The level of general cognition about AIDS was low. There were a statistically significant increases in the mean of knowledge(t=-22.17, p=.000) and care intention(t=-2.74, p=.006). However, there was no significant difference in the mean of attitudes(t=-.57, p=.569) between the pre-post test. CONCLUSION The findings of this study showed the benefits of providing educational interventions for improving knowledge and care about AIDS, while there not any significant changes in attitudes, especially in items based on Korean socio-cultural values. Therefore, to increase attitude about AIDS, various teaching strategies need to be further studied and evaluated.
PURPOSE This study was conducted to examine the effects of the secondary stroke prevention education program to inhibit the recurrence of the acute ischemic stroke patients, and to maintain and promote knowledge about stroke, self-efficacy and self-care. METHOD: This study was designed to take a quasi-experimental pre- and post-test with the nonequivalent control group. The experimental group consists of 20 patients and control group consists of 20 patients. The experimental group was applied the secondary stroke prevention education program. In order to verify the effects of the secondary stroke prevention education program, knowledge about stroke, self-efficacy and self-care scale were measured before the intervention and 4 weeks, 12 weeks after discharge. The tools for measuring knowledge about stroke, self-efficacy and self-care are developed by the researcher. The data was analyzed by SPSS win 10.0 program using chi2-test, Fisher's Exact Test, t-test, Kolmogorov- Smirnov Z, and Repeated Measures ANOVA. RESULT: There was a statistically significant difference in knowledge about stroke (F=4.021, p=.026), self-efficacy(F=6.096, p=.018), and self-care(F=8.026, p=.007) between the experimental and the control group after intervention. CONCLUSION: It is considered that the program can be used as an effective nursing intervention in clinical practice.
PURPOSE This study investigated the effect of an AIDS education program of nursing junior students on knowledge, attitudes, fear of contagion, and nursing intentions about AIDS. METHOD The study was conducted in a university in Chungnam province from March, 2000 to May, 2001. Research design of this study was a nonequivalent control group, non-synchronized design. A traditional lecture education was given to the control group. The experimental group received a multi-media education using video tape and group discussion as well as traditional lecture education. Data were collected 1 month before and after education. The SPSS program was used to analyze the data. RESULTS The results of this study were as follows: There were significant differences in the mean of knowledge (t=4.227, p=.000), prejudice (t=-2.281, p=.025), social interaction (t= 4.144, p=.000) between experimental group and the control group. But, there were no significant differences in the mean of fear of contagion (t=-7.320, p=.467) and nursing intention (t=.800, p=.427) between the two groups. CONCLUSION The findings of this study showed the benefits of providing educational interventions for improving knowledge and attitudes, but didn't show any significant changes on fear of contagion and nursing intention. Therefore, to reduce fear of contagion and increase nursing intention, various teaching strategies need to be further studied and evaluated.
The cause of essential hypertension is yet unknown, but in general is caused by interaction of hereditary factors, diet, obesity, lack of exercise and stress. The aging process influences various physiological mechanism related to regulation of blood pressure. So elderly hypertensives have a tendancy to consider the disease as a result of the physiological aging process. This attitude causes many complications, worsening of the disease and even early death because of inappropriate care. In order to improve self-management of elderly hypertensives in this study the researcher examined the effect of blood pressure regulation by an education program that improves self-care behavior, through increasing self-efficacy. The education program consisted of group education on hypertension and self-care strategies, and encouraging and reinforcing self-efficacy resources such as verbal persuation, performance accomplishment and vicarious experiences. A quasi-experimental pre-and post-test design was used. Thirty-two elderly hypertensives participated in the study. Eighteen in the education group and fourteen in the control group. The education program consisted of eight sessions twice a week for four weeks. There was no intervention for the control group. Data were analysed using SPSS for Windows(Version 8.0). The results were as follows. 1. There was a significant decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the experimental group and control group over three different times, and interaction by groups and over time. 2. There was no significant difference in the level of self-care behavior between the experimental group and control group over three different times, and interaction by groups and over time. 3. There was significant difference in self-efficacy of experimental and control group, depending on the measuring period, but there was no difference between these groups on interaction by groups and over time. 4. There was positive correlation between self efficacy and self care behavior depending on the measuring period. There was negative correlation between diastolic blood pressure and self-care behavior on the posttest of the program, and between systolic blood pressure and self-care behavior on the follow-up test of the program. Findings indicate that this study will contribute to develop nursing strategies for the regulation of blood pressure for the elderly, which is easy for the elderly to learn as a nonpharmacologic approach.
